Fresh flowers are lovely. They're also expensive, and too often looking tired by Thursday. This calculator shows the honest numbers, so you can decide for yourself.

What the numbers don't show
- Time. No trimming, no water changes, no clearing up dropped petals.
- Pets. Lilies are dangerous to cats, even the pollen. Faux arrangements carry no such risk. Read our guide to pet-safe flowers.
- Hay fever. No pollen, no scent, no sneezing.
- The honest bit. Fresh flowers have a scent and a change-through-the-week quality that faux can't copy. Many homes do both: faux in the hallway and guest rooms, a fresh bunch on the kitchen table now and then.
The fresh-flower figure uses the spend and frequency you choose; the arrangement figure uses our current price and an optional refill estimate of £60 a year. Faux, dried or fresh? Our honest comparison · Shop arrangements
